Sumaili Nyange’s family fled The Democratic Republic of Congo when he was just 9 years old. For years, he and his friends in Kakuma dreamed of a recording studio where their band, The Ambassador Crew, could blend their passion for music with sustainable ways of living based on Permaculture methods.

In April 2022, with the support from the SunRise Studios Collective (SRS) and Empowered by Light, Sumaili and his team have realized their dream and have built a fully-functioning, solar-powered recording studio that will also act as a permaculture education center and resource to the people of Kakuma. They named it Hope Studio.
