Huaca Montegrande - Ancient Cacao
Time is of the Essence!
Please help today to protect the Ancient Roots of Cacao and Empower the Amazon’s Cultural Legacy!
Nestled in the high heart of the Peruvian Amazon, the Huaca Montegrande archeological site is a beacon of discovery, revealing profound insights into ancient civilizations and their sacred bond with nature.
Recent findings, including traces of cacao in 6,000-year-old ceremonial pottery, position Huaca Montegrande as Peru’s oldest monumental temple site, predating the pyramids of Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Recognized as one of the “Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries in the World” by an international archaeology forum, the Huaca Montegrande has revealed the previously unknown ancient Amazonian Marañon Culture – existing 3,000 years before the Inca and Nazca civilizations.
These discoveries have transformed our understanding of organized human settlement, early agroecological practices, and spirituality in the Amazon, effectively rewriting history. The ancient Marañon Culture is now recognized as the world’s earliest steward of cacao, pioneering its domestication, veneration, and trade in the Americas.
Led by archeologist Dr. Quirino Olivera, the Peruvian nonprofit ASICAMPE is dedicated to preserving this invaluable heritage. However, the Huaca Montegrande project is currently facing a critical funding crisis that threatens to halt this essential work. Per Peruvian law, any unfinished archaeological excavation must be re-buried.
Just as its surrounding Amazon rainforest requires protection, so does the Huaca Montegrande. Our site is a living temple for life, where science, nature and spirituality intersect. With your support, we commit to continue studying, restoring and preserving Huaca Montegrande’s present ecological and cultural landscape.
Your generous contributions will:
– Keep Huaca Montegrande open to protect cultural heritage
– Fund ongoing excavations and research
– Preserve ancient artifacts for future generations
– Foster alliances with local farmers and communities who steward Montegrande’s ancient cacao tree varieties
– Empower cultural renewal of local indigenous Awajún communities
– Boost the local economy through cultural heritage education and ethical cacao tourism
Together, we can safeguard the legacy of Huaca Montegrande and pursue its future recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Sadly, if we do not raise enough funds in the next month, the project will have to be shut down, and this amazing story lost to time! Please help reveal the true history of Cacao and support local agroforestry for the people of Peru.
Thank you!
